Our Story
This family-owned and run Isle of Wight auction house began life in 1894 in a purpose-built building in Shanklin, over time evolving and expanding to become HRD Auction Rooms as you see it today.
It was in the 1980s that Director, Hugh Riches, first started his 45-year career in the as-then estate agent operated “The Auction Rooms”, working his way up the ladder, before buying the business outright and renaming it Island Auction Rooms - running it successfully for many years with his wife Andree.
In 1995, Managing Director Warren Riches left the forces to join the team, eventually taking over the reins completely some 10 years later, and spearheading the business into the 21st Century with the introduction of online bidding and a worldwide buying clientele, and the relocation to a bigger, more modern premises in Brading.
Today, a long-serving dedicated staff of twelve, including four auctioneers and valuers with a combined experience of over a 100 years, are proud to serve as the only live auction house on the Isle of Wight.
Since January 2018, HRD Auction Rooms has operated under one roof in Brading to provide a more efficient and state-of-the-art service to both sellers and buyers.
HRD Auction Rooms offers monthly sales of Fine Art, Antiques & Collectables, and Modern & Vintage items. We also provide regular valuation days and can assist with probate valuations and house clearances.
All presale exhibitions and auctions are free and open to the public, with online bidding additionally available via the-saleroom.com - allowing visitors from all over the world to participate.
